the first years, from his first album in 1976 to his 7th in the middle of the 80’s, were fuelled with an exemplary sense of creativity and a free-spirit vision. against everyones advice, cerrone was never reluctant to compose long and pure trance disco tracks, not exactly radio-friendly at the time, but which did incredibly well because they encapsulated the hedonism of the day and were far more than a trend. for instance, love in c minor and supernature have become unbeatable classics, featured regularly in the best pop, disco or dance selections, such a success would have burnt most of the others wings, whose career would have been ruined. at the beginning of the 80s, when he decided to unleash his creativity on stage, cerrone managed to rebound with you are the one studio album.

after 3 years of hosting and co-hosting several successful events the guys at vbx decided to expand their musical horizon in the form of a vinyl only label. none other then vbx mainstay ferro is responsible for the kickoff ep. >time will tell< perfectly showcases the various facets of ferro s musical persona. the a-side track >time< is the most introspective and hypnotic on this ep. the background atmospherics swell and fall, while the rhythm steadily chugs forward, slowly making you lose your sense of time. the growling sounds and heavy kicks that form the backbone of >mushin< make this track the most straightforward club banger of the bunch, while still maintaining an edge through the intricate sampling of armand van helden s >the funk phenomenon<. ferro rounds up the ep with >opening the seven<, nagging vocal snips serve as a melodic hook while distorted rhythmical elements give the track its typical ferro sense of swing.

finally after 3 years season 1 comes to an end. the birth of concept that has led to the evolution of who we are today. we’ve had the pleasure of working with some incredibly talented artists that have been an inspiration to us helping us shape and form a part of our identity. that is because several reasons is not just about the music, it is about the experience, the exploration, the collaboration, the up times and the down times, the good times and the better times, for the journey… closing off the first season made no other sense than to seal it with a special collaboration from the owners of several reasons, dubit & mynude. an ep that that truly provokes and challenges boundaries of the stereotypical label of “music”. covering all aspects of ambient, atmospheric and experimental types of sounds, the release really an experiment of psychoacoustics.

kyle geiger returns on his home label with a set of tracks designed to recapture the basic function of techno. it s music to sweat to at a party. additionally, this package aims to capture a sense of timelessness through melody interwoven with a pumping breed of techno rhythms. the title track, homecoming, starts with a bottom-heavy percussive workout, then presses forward with an array of slowly filtering brighter synth stabs. the breakdown sees an arpeggiated synth slowly overtake the rhythm of the track just long enough to build tension and bring things back to full speed. the verge is a very stripped back, drum track style cruiser, which builds tension with a rising distorted pulse sound filtering in and out. just as it seems that the back half of the track will carry on as planned, a running melody comes in and changes the direction of the entire track. the verge (beat tool) is identical to the original, but build for those a little shy about slightly more upfront melodies.

fleeting wax is a new label by basel djs mehmet aslan and miajica from alma negra, whose fame has spread far and beyond switzerland. the ep contains three striking edits from the reaches of what could be considered world disco in the widest sense of the word. its fair to say that this is the embodiment of a now familiar basel sound all sultry playfulness, turkish delights and sun drenched pop not pop. the first is tais schlager edit, built on a combo of hypnotic marimba-dreaming and that irresistibly sugary voice. istanbul digger dj fattish immerses himself into the singer-songwriter wealth of his country. and label co-owner miajica weds italian cantautore passion to the dancefloor. with its first release, fleeting wax clearly lives up to its romantic promise: unearthing forgotten relics and infusing sleeping beautys with new life.

from deep within the shadows, grant steps out with his debut album *the acrobat* on enigmatic label the lauren bacall. lush atmospherics lift up each of the high-flying tracks on *the acrobat*, crafting a sense of euphoria and ease that is reminiscent of such deep house from late 90s early 2000 inspired by labels such as early plastic city, deep4life, and svek.

polar is a similarly physical track with massive, monstrous kicks, reverberating synth lines and a barreling sense of groove that washes over you like a braking wave. finally, warrior charge is another physical and functional cut with robust drums, oversized hi hats and woodpecker like hook that demands you stomp and head bang from start to finish.

mikron are two english brothers, michael & ciaran corcoran, living in australia. following on from their impressive no correlation ep on the hacker & gesaffelstein s zone records in 2014, sleep paralysis brings a level of darkness to the cpu roster we ve not heard since the likes of source direct. harsh, hard hitting electro bass similar to that of black narcissus, overdriven, tape saturated 808 beats, with raw robotic funk leads seemingly conversing throughout.

after making a great impression with its first ep, giant records serves up a second hot helping of house music from boss man grant dell, complete with fresh remixes by scottish techno stalwarts silicone soul. dell, also known as chicago transit authority, has been doing his do for 25 years now. as a dj he is at home in clubs in ibiza and barcelona as well as around the rest of europe, and is someone who always prefers to push his own brand of widely infused and influenced music than his own profile. once again here he comes up trumps with the emotive, glowing house cut ‘in your mind’. with a neat bassline and mid tempo house drums, subtle but effective synth smears add warmth and colour to the groove, whilst soul fuelled vocals add a real sense of personality. this is sure to get people grooving at any hour and comes with grant’s own space echo remix. as the title suggests it’s a more dubby and reverb rich affair with cosmic signifiers and sci-fi vibes pervading from start to finish. silicone soul need little introduction having been at the heart of real deep house and techno for decades on the soma label. their first remix is a darkroom dub - named after their own label - and is a seductively slo-mo and lazily unfolding house cut with languid synths that really suck you in. their lush hypnohouse mix is then a twinkling, late night bit of melodically rich deep house with starry skies twinkling above sombre chords. this is a patiently served but hugely alluring ep that is stuffed with plenty of tender feeling. one again then, both grant and giant have come up with the goods.

ravage are happy to announce that rising dutch talent, daniel te boekhorst aka induction, will take centre stage as the first artist to release on the label with liturgical hymns, the first in our ravage white series. surrounded by music in his youth and having learned piano at an early age, inductions play things were eventually set aside and replaced by his fathers analogue hardware and synthesizers. it was in the blood. his sound? a heady concoction of electronica that ranges from deep, melodic and groovy to more urgent and harder realms. a fresh face and name for the scene but one that is destined for great things, all starting right here with rws001 - liturgical hymns.

italian dj/production duo simbiosi will release a 3-part box set containing fourteen tracks of techno, hardcore and abstract explorations. loads on here...tip!

hedonism is an ethical theory that pleasure, in a sense of satisfaction of desires, is the highest good and proper aim of human life, and this seems to also be hdnsm’s ultimate musical objective. their first release debuted as a kickstarter of “variant ep” v.a. series, showcasing three very different yet highly contemplative creations from cumsecade, anestie gomez and man spider. hdnsm flips the coin and for the second episode of “variant” series it lands on two very solid, incredibly moody and extensive works from fresh talents shcaa and cleymoore. the ep features two very different tracks yet they share the same minimalistic core. both works are blessed with intricate micro-drum arrangements for those feeling groove hungry whilst still standing tall in the experimental abstract realm pleasing those who crave unusual frequencies. a-side’s “masquée” is one of shcaa’s typical rides between sound and silence and it is hard to find another artist who understands sound gaps between grooves better than shcaa does. with his signature vocals and an incredibly delicious duality between acoustic instrumentalism and electronic slamming, this is a groovy, highly deep, very intelligently arranged piece. the flip-side “nebula”, signed by pluie/noir’s boss cleymoore, is a tip of an iceberg when it comes to the art of stripping down. in an apparently thin canvas of minimal drum arrangements there’s a vast amount of sound frequencies underneath a steady ever-kicking groove, tricking your mind into thinking that you’re hearing less than you actually perceive. nebula is hypnotic and dense but focused and sophisticatedly groovy. like the repetitive vocals you’ll hear throughout the b-side, this v.a. sticks to your mind like an addiction of some sort and pushes hdnsm to a new standard of avant-garde and forward-thinking attitude. as before, this vinyl only release comes in a gorgeous cover featuring a painting from max binski and the number of copies available is limited

mikael strömbergs alter ego igor has created the album *fast & slow* who is an aspiring masterpiece in the ambient genre, the references are very clear to the 70s iconic ambient school, including satie-cage-eno-soundart, but at the same time a modern touch and a sense of the present. the story behind this album is the least frightening and fascinating as the composer strömberg was seconds away from losing his lives when the aorta ruptured all the way from top to bottom with the diagnosis: acute aortic dissection. the music became a part of his rescue and the record *fast and slow* came about as part of his healing process.

after two fine eps on chiwax, russian dj and producer dmitry kovyazin aka kovyazin d now makes his debut on the dutch label mos deep. he serves up three tracks of house that fit perfectly with the misty, roughshod vibe of the well established label. this is classic house with a modern twist and is truly filled with a rare sense of narrative.

san jose native (now berlin based) lady blacktronika aka akua marcelle grant is the latest edition to the meda fury family - described by resident advisor as the first lady of deep house, her slow but steady rise has resulted from a slew of smoky, beatdown inflected workouts, topped with her sultry vocals, and infused with a sense of her personal struggles and hardships.

other people is excited to debut the work of 19-year-old russian producer gena volgarev, aka inlensk, with the obratno ep. translated as backward, or conversely, obratno seems obsessed with and frustrated by a sense of nostalgia that can never lock its focus. finely etched, highly detailed rhythms retain a cerebral cool fluttering over, under, and around melancholic digital melodies that bend and degrade sporadically. meanwhile, the tactile use of filtering, extreme pans, and hypnotic microprogramming reveals an interest in sounds ability to shift temporal perception and evoke a purely neural response

the mysterious talent antenna shows his tough, high impact house sound for his second release on the dutch pinkman label. first up, ‘childhood’ is a mid tempo bit of elastic, groove driven house with whirring machines, raw synth patterns and filtered, muffled vocals. hi hats add an incendiary element of pressure but really this one is all about the pinging, rubbery drums that flail like drunken limbs. ‘when i read my book’ is another purposeful offering riddled with melody and deep drums, slapping claps and lots of jittery cow bells, impish synth sounds and bass kills that brings a real sense of energy to proceedings. lastly, ‘in august’ is a tripped out cut with skipping kick drums, celestial and heavenly, glassy melodies and skittish percussion that all glide along in alluring and off kilter fashion. this is house music, but not as you know it!

where to now? records are proud to present beatrice dillons follow up release to the widely well received * blues dances*. this three track 12 inch sees beatrice step things up a gear in terms of intricacy, experimenting wildly to add to her already astute palette of timbre and rhythm. face a leads the record with the unmistakable skronk of saxophone cutting and jamming over the skeletal pulse of beatrices signature dubbed out techno landscape. initially the inclusion of saxophone acts as an aural abstraction or diversion to extract a little freedom from the pumping cavern of dark dub techno atmosphere punctuated with the mechanical juddering saw-bass, but as the piece develops and we become deep into the groove the inclusion of wild sax snorts trips us up and become the focus itself as new levels of complex melodic and rhythmic detail become apparent within this otherwise structurally obedient space. taking its cues from rabih beaini, miles davis * big fun* era, dresvn and keith hudson, undoubtably face a is a compelling, complex trip… heads down but arms flailing. face b continues the theme but takes the listener far deeper into the cavern. here the concern is more the effects of space within song, a moment where beatrice allows herself to move away from the floor to find a little more room for playful experimentation. the saxophone is further treated with a plethora of effects to compliment the array of dub signals that scatter and skip around the basin. the record closes with sonnier (walk in the light) which strangely somehow manages to feel jazzier in its components, even in comparison to a pair of tracks riffing on a manipulated free-jazz sax part. it sounds strangely unsure of its world, adding to this whole loosely slung, loping feel which somehow fits amongst the stern, brooding, and efficient synth play. beatrice masterfully manages to create a piece here that grows in intensity without ever increasing in pace or texture, every drop is intended to stir the listener a little more than the last. theres a sense throughout all the pieces of having rhythm imposed or even inflicted upon the listener but this is certainly not a conflict of ideas… there is optimism, harmony and above all - wild groove nestled within beatrices world of mutant shuffle.

repress 2015 ... with dubsteps big push into the mainstream, stirring up all manner of hybrids, variants and mutations, its worth remembering that some have been creating fresh twists on the current generation of global bass music from its very inception. paul rose, aka scuba, and his hotflush label have, since 2003, had experimentation and genre-collision etched into the very structures of everything they do. putting out key tunes by the core pioneers of dubstep, but also by true outliers like mount kimbie, joy orbison and sepalcure, hotflush has created a sense of absolute consistence in diversity: multiple sounds united by true craftsmanship and high-tech expression of complex emotion. joining the uk underground to the deep-rooted techno culture of berlin, where rose is now resident, the label is a vital nexus in the flow of musical information that is fuelling the current innovative climate. so next time you hear someone talking about >post<- this or >future<- that, consider that maybe the times are just catching up with hotflush. back and 4th features ten brand new tracks from bass musics most innovative producers, as well as a collection of essentials from hotflushs recent catalogue. the compilation is presented in double-cd and as a triple 12 inch vinyl release.

released for the first time on vinyl is max richter’s emotive and minimal score to damon lindelof’s tv series about a post-apocalyptic global event where 2% of the world’s population disappears without explanation. richter’s approach explores the feelings of the protagonist’s family, the garveys, through intimate, small scale music. he tackles this psychological landscape by bringing a ritual quality to the score, while themes of departure and loss are represented by a sense of sonic decay, relying on the instrumentation of a few sustained tones on pianos, harps and celesta. max richter is a classically trained composer that defies boundaries. trained at the royal academy of music and finishing his studies under the tutelage of avant-garde composer luciano berio in florence, richter’s career has followed many paths. his musical output ranges from ballets (wayne macgregor’s infra), reinventions of classical works (vivaldi’s four seasons), collaborations with the future sound of london, roni size and vashti bunyan to writing scores for film and tv (waltz with bashir, lost and found, last days on mars) and solo work (memoryhouse, the blue notebooks, 24 postcards in full colour).

it is no exaggeration to say that ultrastretch has accumulated an array of outstanding releases and artists since its creation in 2011. one knows that being as renown a representative of the underground music scene as sammy dee is, he can easily sign music from any established artist he would like, the so called ‘big names’, however, when we look at the past seven releases on ultrastretch, the agenda here seems to be another. what has become an apparent and admirable feature of this label/platform and of sammy dee himself is his clear support for new music from young and yet to be discovered talents. it is on that note that ultrastretch 08 brings you romanian artist crihan. hailing from a small town close to cluj, alin crihan moved to bucharest in 2009 to be more in touch with the underground scene and music in the capital as it poses more opportunities for him to grow and develop. from dj’ing in the most various clubs in his home country, his first steps into western europe as a dj came earlier last year at no less than the legendary robert johnson club alongside petre inspirescu in frankfurt. producing under his real name for the past four years, crihan’s release for ultrastretch brings two tracks, setting the listener into two very distinctive paths. the a side, * uelden* is a dance floor oriented track. the first words to come to mind are groove and rhythm, giving the track a somewhat funky feeling overall. the elements have been crafted carefully and therefore appropriately placed just where and when you need them. by simply starting the track with a bass line and shuffling hihats he slowly develops to a journey that not onlyventures further into groove and rhythm but also in mind grabbing harmonies with deep/airy sounding pads giving it a comforting sense of beauty and obscurity. the b side is called a doua dimensiune, literally translated from romanian it means the second dimension. doing justice to the title the track does generate the feeling of being in another dimension. it is a very deep affair into mind-altering soundscapes, very atmospheric and at times dark and obscure. attention to detail is apparent judging by the overlayering of elements featured in this track. a constant rolling base formed of water tapping ambient sounds give way to harmonies made up of strings and random noises on top.

danny moore aka pvre matrix is from a generation of young techno producers out of brooklyn who come at the music without preconcieved notions or boundaries in their approach to production and playing live. he is the epitomy of the slash and burn blitzkrieg attitude of new producers popping up under the jmz everyday. while very interesting to see the scene develop this way, few have executed in such a fashion as pvre matrix has. impeccabily produced without losing its sense of urgency or brutality and clocking in at breakneck speed, pvre matrix is out for blood, and his three track debuts prove as such. while you might not catch danny moore in your local big room anytime soon, he is undeniably a force that is present and will crush you regardless.

oid is the solo project of russian producer andrei antonets who is set to release his latest track bright side of life on pnn records 13/07/2015 born in riga and having lived in berlin, oid is now based in moscow, where he is inspired by the citys rapidly changing scene. bright side of life translates a sense of potential, it is upbeat without being commercial. the tracks singular sound has prompted the field, popnoname & j.p janzen (von spar) and mujuice all to produce remixes which will appear on the ep alongside the original. each of these deliver a unique take on this uncommon yet catchy tune.

moscow017 sees archie hamilton release his first solo ep on the label since it s creation, five years ago. the opening track was written at the end of a summer season spent in ibiza s cala vadella. it s intricate bass, percussion and emotive tones capture the mystery of this beautiful part of the island, putting the listener into a hypnotic state over it s 12 minute journey. contrarily, 21514 was written in the uk during the spring (the clue is in the title) micro house percussion is paired with dreamy synths and growling bass in perfect harmony to create 7 minutes of wonder. romania s priku lends a hand on the remix, adding a sense of dance floor aggression but without loosing the original character of the track.

psyth launches with the debut ep from rob shields. with a delicate urgency driven by a pulsating post-punk bassline, shards lavishes layer upon rich layer of sound, evoking the cool grooves of peaking lights and chromatics, while a shimmering vocal sample from rebecca sawyer adds an otherworldly sense of longing that echoes through the soul of the release. silhouetted appears more conventional and dance-floor friendly next to shards, but under the surface is something unique and strangely exotic. a mantra-like melody loop gives a nod to minimalist composer terry riley and his solo organ works, while world instruments such as an african kalimba and tibetan singing bowl only heighten the hypnotic and intoxicating quality even further.

nicolas villebrun, half of society of silence and acid square dance, is putting out his first solo album on fragil musique, accurately titled « snare roll lp ». villebrun only needed a couple of recording sessions during a short period of time, to put the whole thing out from a unique set up. although an accomplished musician, tite seems to leave his technical skills aside when crafting his music, embracing all the spontaneity one would expect from a techno producer. listening to the lp, the title starts to make sense. when the snares are not rolling, the smooth basslines take over, strongly dragging bodies towards the dance floor. hungry man, move into hell, a white track, and the amazing the bell glides are among those. basslines curved as a horse s behind, subtly swifting through the air, are playing around with smartly spread out rhythms and textures. tite comes up with nine commonly grounded tracks, but with the necessary talent and sharpness to produce a resolutely fine, homogeneous, and yet diversified techno lp.

as with the best techno, the best minimalist records, the best krautrock ventures, this first model alpha lp hints at a weird sense of time, not totally of the past, not totally of the future, not at all of the present. something in between, a time travel machine that can take you on a random journey. listening to those tracks is a bit like making time’s flow stop.

up first, juice machine is a barreling cut with pinging drums that ride up and down in infectious style. carefully treated vocals echo up top and add a dub flavour as subtle rave horns and old school motifs also colour the groove. when remixed by re.you, the track becomes a more subdued, deeper cut with spraying synths and a sense of late night paranoia in the grooves. lastly, badass acid is a minimal cut with warm pads, hiccuping sine waves and a growing sense of synthetic tension. it s a masterful bit of slow burning craftsmanship that has icy hi hats to die for.

next up on obsession recordings is a new one from label co-founder primitive world (sam willis of walls/ecstatic) following up from his excellent previous release ‘worship / premonition . fast falling hands , has a relentless, almost abrasive groove, offset with a staggered insolent bassline and jagged percussion which see primitive world further developing his off kilter sensibility and sense of texture. on the flip, ‘rush’ twists proceedings up with its humid atmosphere, heavy breathing, and the unique sense of restraint seen demonstrated in his previous work.
